Fondly known as the ‘green’ suburb, Newlands is an excellent base from which to explore the nearby Cape Town attractions, and most agree that Newlands has it all – great shopping, great sports, super restaurants, a charming history and large natural playgrounds.
Newlands is one of Cape Town’s southern suburbs, along with Claremont, Constantia, Rondebosch, Wynberg and Ottery, and they lie to the southeast of the slopes of Table Mountain. These are some of Cape Town’s most affluent neighbourhoods and include some very expensive residential areas. Newlands in particular has some exceptionally beautiful homes almost on the very edge of the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens and on the mountain slopes. However, regardless of where you stay in Newlands, nothing interrupts the spectacular views of Table Mountain!
The suburb of Newlands has attractive tree-lined streets and boasts a peaceful, but modern atmosphere. Many of the restaurants available could have come straight out of a magazine, while the friendly, local coffee shops are simply perfect places to socialise and watch the people of the Cape going about their daily routines. Newlands offers its residents and visitors plenty of amazing places to shop, and is not far from the huge and ever-popular Cavendish Square Shopping Centre in Claremont with over 200 exciting stores. There are also many other superb and large shopping centres in Cape Town. The V & A Waterfront is well known for its exclusive boutiques and its many other attractions, while Canal Walk and the Tyger Valley Shopping Centre are another two exquisite ‘shop-till-you-drop’ venues to the north of Newlands.
